Start by cutting out your vase. Or if you want a different style, design your own vase! Check out some examples of beautiful antique Japanese pottery to get some ideas. Look at the various shapes of the vases themselves. Also, notice the beautiful floral designs on each vase. Each seems a bit different than the next but similarities can be found. Lots of windy vines and leaves with flowers, also notice the bold lines near the neck of the vases.

You can also search the web for more ideas by googling “Japanese blue & white vase”.
Start designing your vase using a pencil. Try to leave some white spaces near the base or the neck like our examples did. I went right ahead and drew my design with the blue marker. When you’re ready you can outline your pencil lines carefully with the blue marker.

After you’ve finished outlining your designs and the outside of the vase with blue, you’re ready to cut out the vase! Please ask for help with scissors if you think you need it.

Once you’ve cut our your vase, you’re ready to glue it down onto the bottom edge of your blue piece of paper.

Give your glue a few minutes to dry. while you’re waiting get your brown paint (or brown marker) ready to paint/draw some cherry blossom branches. I started with three solid brown lines coming out of the top of my vase. After, I added smaller sprouts off each line. To make those just make a smaller diagonal line off the main branch.

While your paint is drying, tear yoir tissue paper into small pieces.

Once you’re sure your brown painted branches are dry you can start on the cherry blossoms! Start by putting a dot of glue evenly spaced on your branches. Crumble up the tissue paper, one piece at a time and press them onto each glue dot.
