To create this beautiful art piece we will be using a few different materials.

You will need:
- a pencil
- markers
- a bowl of water
- watercolor paint
- a paintbrush
- colored pencils
- thick paper
- crayons
- different objects from around the house that can make a nice still life subject
Think vases, bottles, jars, plants etc
- ruler
IF you don’t have all of the mediums I’ve listed, simply alternate each section with whatever medium you have. EX. if you only have markers and colored pencils, simply color every other section with colored pencil and alternate with marker.
To start, arrange your items in a visually pleasing composition. Try to keep smaller objects in front and stagger the objects with similar height. Below is my arrangement:
![](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/ba8911_570958862ee7476eabf76976c9816afe~mv2.jpeg/v1/fill/w_980,h_735,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/ba8911_570958862ee7476eabf76976c9816afe~mv2.jpeg)
Now its time to start sketching! Draw very lightly at first with your pencil, then outline a bit darker after you’re happy with the placement of your items. Make sure to take up most of the paper, you want the objects to be large enough to add details.

When you’re finished drawing your lovely still life drawing, you are ready to add some lines across your image. We will use a ruler to draw lines across the image. I drew three diagonal lines from top to bottom. Each of these sections we’ve made will be colored in with a different medium (marker, colored pencil, crayon or watercolor).I know it sounds strange but it will look great in the end!

Once you’ve drawn your deciding lines you’re ready to start with color. I colored my first section in with crayon.

I started very light with the color and then added pressure to the areas that were darker with shadow. Make sure you pay attention to which side of your items the light is shining on and creating highlights and stick with it throughout the entire art piece. Make sure not to color with crayon over that dividing line we drew.

I went back and colored the background in with a solid red color. You can do it now instead!

For the next section I used watercolor paints. I added color to the glass jars and vases even if they don’t really have color in real life because it looks more exciting. Be sure to keep with a similar color even as you switch mediums. Watercolor is probably the trickiest medium out of the four because you need to stay super aware of how much color and water you’re using. You still want to make sure the glass looks see through and that you can see a faint outline of the objects behind.

Next, I used the colored pencils! This section ended up being my favorite because it’s easier to control the pressure of the pencils. The shadows and highlights are more apparent.

Last, I used markers. This section ended up looking much different than the other three because you can’t really control the pressure when you’re using markers. They end up looking pretty flat, which looks cool either way!
